No. 9 Volleyball Sweeps to Victory Over San Diego Christian

Box Score
SAN MARCOS, Calif.-- The Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team recorded their first home win of the season, defeating the San Diego Christian Hawks in front of nearly 300 fans Tuesday night at Escondido High School.

The Cougars, who moved up a spot to No. 9 in the NAIA national rankings Tuesday, led each set from nearly start to finish, trailing just twice in the match.

Taylor DeGraaf led all attackers with 14 kills, and Erin Talafus had a clean game with 9 kills and no errors for a .500 hitting percentage. As a team, the Cougars hit .248 on the match while holding the Hawks to just .159.

Libero Nichole May was exceptional for the Cougars, recording a game high 19 digs, nearly 50% of the team total. Her defense and passing helped setter Alyssa Foster to record 39 assists as the Cougars controlled the net offensively. May also notched three service aces, including two back-to-back aces in the second set to extend the CSUSM lead, and then closed out the set with her final ace of the evening.

The Cougars (14-7) will have little time to celebrate, as they prepare to face No. 5 Westmont (15-1) in a Top-10 battle on Friday in Santa Barbara. CSUSM is 3-1 against ranked NAIA opponents this season. The Cougars will then return home Saturday for a home match against UC Merced at 5:00 pm.
