Volleyball Loses a Tight One at The Master's

Box Score SANTA CLARITA, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team took the first set on the road in front of 300 fans at Bross Gymnasium, but fell in four sets to The Master's College Tuesday evening 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 16-25.

The Cougars (3-2) started strong, rallying to score the final three points of the first set to claim the it 25-23, capped off by one of Taylor DeGraaf's game-high 13 kills on the evening. CSUSM hit .333 in the set, but couldn't continue its success as the match went on, hitting .091, .114, and .000 in the final three sets, respectively.

Still, the Cougars played the host Mustangs tight in the second and third sets, hitting 10 service aces while holding The Master's to just one. Outside hitter Brittany Thompson led all players with four aces, while Lindsey Sappington— who finished with nine kills and 13 digs— also had three on the evening.

However, it was not enough to overcome a strong Mustang attack that hit .325 on the evening, and the Cougars dropped close sets in the second and third before The Master's finally took control in the fourth and final set.

Setter Alyssa Foster led the Cougars with 33 assists and 15 digs, in addition to hitting .800 on the match with four kills in five attempts.

The Cougars will look to rebound quickly as they take on Concordia (Ore.) Thursday in the first of four matches in the Biola University Summer Slam in La Mirada, Calif.
