The Cal State San Marcos Women's Golf team struggled in their final day of the NAIA National Championships, shooting a 325 on the Par-73 Link Hills Country Club course in Greeneville, Tennesee.
The outing wrapped up successful season in which the Cougars were ranked as high as 11
th, and were never lower than 15
th in the NAIA national polls. Entering Friday's final round, the Cougars were in 16
th place after making Thursday's cut, but were not able to make the final push they were hoping for, carding their highest round of the tournament.
Felicia Titus finished the tournament as the team's highest scorer, tying for 36
th overall at 314 with rounds of 77-76-77-84.
Vanessa Chap (80-75-84-79, 318) and
Tess Russell (80-81-80-79, 320) tied for the lowest round for the Cougars Friday at 79, and finished 52
nd and 64
th respectively.
Lisa Copeland shot an 85 Friday, and ended up 73
rd individually, while
Stephanie Cole finished her college career with an 83 and finished 83
rd overall.
Senior
Tess Russell and
Stephanie Cole have both played a large role in the team's success this year, but the future is still very bright for the Cougars with a strong incoming class and three standouts returning again next year.
