SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's soccer teams will defend their respective Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) titles this weekend when the A.I.I. Conference Tournament comes to town on Friday and Saturday.

The Women's Side
CSUSM earned the No. 1 seed for the tournament with a 10-4-3 overall mark and will face No. 4-seed University of Houston-Victoria (7-10) on Friday at 11:00 a.m. No. 2-seed Ashford (11-4-2) and No. 3-seed Jamestown (8-8-2) will face off at 11:00 a.m. on the Multipurpose Field. The winner of each game will play on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for the conference title and an automatic berth to the NAIA tournament. The Cougars have won three of the last four A.I.I. titles.
On the Men's Side
The fourth-seeded Cougars (6-6-3) will play against top-seeded Ashford (11-2-4) on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Mangrum Soccer Field. CSUSM or AU will play the winner of No. 2-seed Jamestown (14-4) and No. 3-seed University of Houston-Victoria (9-7) for the conference championship at 2:00 p.m. CSUSM won its first-ever conference title in 2011.
Cal State San Marcos Women's Preview
The Cougars enter the A.I.I. Conference Tournament as the No. 1-seed, looking for their fourth A.I.I. title in its last five seasons. CSUSM beat Thomas University 1-0 for its third A.I.I. championship in 2011. The Cougars went 10-4-3 overall during the regular season and were 3-1-1 against NAIA top-25 teams.
Cal State San Marcos Men's Preview
CSUSM started the year with one win in its first nine games, but have rallied to win five of their last six to finish at 6-6-3 overall. The Cougars have outscored its opponents 9-0 in its last four victories, all of the shutout variety. CSUSM is the defending A.I.I. Conference Tournament champion, having beaten Thomas University, 3-1, in 2011.
 Ashford Women's Preview
The Saints come into the tournament unbeaten in six of their last seven games, having most recently tied Jamestown and St. Ambrose University. Ashford's 3.53 goals per game average is 11
th-best in the nation and the team's 12.8 shots on goal per game is 7
th-best. The Saints registered shutout wins over No. 19 Robert Morris and No. 14 Judson this season.
Ashford Men's Preview
The Ashford men's soccer team went 11-2-4 in 2012 and earned the No. 1 seed for the tournament. The Saints were ranked as high as No. 12 this season and have spent the last nine weeks in the NAIA Top 25. The Ashford men are currently No. 15 nationally, the only ranked team in the tournament.
Jamestown Women's Preview
The Jamestown women's soccer team has produced its most wins since 2005 after coach Nick Becker took the reigns at the beginning of the season. Junior Kayla Byle is currently ranked eighth nationally in total saves while sophomore Jolyn Warnes leads the Jimmies with 17 points on six goals and five assists. Jamestown won seven of eight games between September 8 and 30, and ended the regular season at 8-8-2 overall.
Jamestown Men's Preview
The Jimmies blazed out to a 10-0 record in 2012. They currently have a school-record 14 wins heading into the A.I.I. tournament, outscoring their opponents 133-53 this season. Sophomore Jade Johnson leads the Jimmies with 28 points on 10 goals and 8 assists.
University of Houston-Victoria Women's Preview
The University of Houston-Victoria women's soccer team will be making its first postseason appearance in just its third season of collegiate competition. The Jaguars have set a school record with seven wins this season and have won three of their last four games. UHV snapped a six-game losing streak earlier this season with a 1-0 win over Our Lady of the Lake. The Jaguars are 7-10 overall.
University of Houston-Victoria Men's Preview
The University of Houston-Victoria men's soccer team is in its third season of collegiate competition. This year the team set a record for wins in a season, and are currently 9-7 on the year. The Jaguars are on a four-game win streak and have won six of their last seven games. This is the team's first-ever postseason appearance.
