IRVINE, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team could not find a way to break through against the second ranked Concordia Tuesday evening, falling in straight sets to the Eagles 12-25, 19-25, 17-25.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first set on the road, but were quickly quieted as Concordia responded with nine straight points to take a commanding lead and set the tone for the remainder of the match. The 12 points CSUSM managed in the opening set was the fewest they have recorded in a set all season.
The Cougars were able to keep the game close in the following sets, which is a tough feat in itself against the undefeated Eagles, who are now 21-0 on the season, and are 58-2 in their last 60 games dating back to last season.
Taylor DeGraaf led the Cougars on the match with eight kills, and middle hitter
Erin Talafus had a strong game with five kills and five block assists. Libero
Nichole May led the team in digs with 12.
CSUSM drops to 18-9 with the loss, and will look to rebound Friday in as they will take on Vanguard in Costa Mesa.
