Box Score

ESCONDIDO, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team bounced back from a close opening set loss to win comfortably in four sets over visiting San Diego Christian Thursday evening at Escondido High School 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.

The first set featured nine lead changes and 14 tie scores, and eventually fell the way of the visiting Hawks after a service ace by Shelby Broberg clinched the final point. It was all Cougars after that point however, led predominantly by outside hitter Taylor DeGraaf, who finished the match with a game high 20 kills, many of which were hit so hard they ricocheted of opposing defenders and landed well beyond of the court of play.

Also coming up big for the Cougars was setter Alyssa Foster, who did an excellent job distributing the ball with 40 assists, but also added seven kills in 10 attempts for a .700 hitting percentage. Foster also had two monster solo blocks and a service ace on the match.

Libero Nichole May led all players with three aces on the match, and recorded a game high 15 digs as well. Freshman Andi Vordermann also played a large role in the Cougars offense, notching nine kills with a .364 hitting percentage.

Thursday's victory marked the third time the Cougars have defeated the visiting Hawks this season, and CSUSM improved to 6-0 lifetime against their cross-county counterparts. After winning their fifth straight home match, the Cougars are now 18-8 overall, and are riding a four game winning streak. CSUSM will put that streak to the test on Tuesday, October 9 as they face off against undefeated and No. 2 ranked Concordia on the road in Irvine at 7:00 pm.
