History on Their Side
Although the Cougars are a combined 6-0 against Chapman and San Diego Christian, the Cougars do not plan on taking either opponent lightly. The Chapman Panthers played CSUSM tough in their only previous meeting, taking the first set before falling to the Cougars
22-25, 29-27, 26-24, 25-19 in Orange, Calif.
Taylor DeGraaf (19 kills, 25 digs) and
Lindsey Mitchell (13 kills, 11 digs) each recorded a double-double in the match, and two of the four sets went beyond the standard 25 points. Chapman, like the Cougars, are off to a strong start in 2012 winning 12 of their first 15 games, and this year's matchup appears to be just as intriguing.
CSUSM has had their way with San Diego Christian over the last two years, winning all five matches and taking 15 out of a possible 16 sets. However, in a meeting at home just two weeks ago, the Hawks hung tight in all three sets before falling to the Cougars
25-20, 25-19, 25-19.
Hot at Home, Quick to Finish
Not only have the Cougars won their last three matches at home, they have done so without dropping a set, going 9-0 and outscoring their opponents to 225 to 173. In fact, the Cougars have made quick work of many of their opponents throughout the season, winning in straight sets in 12 of their 16 victories.
Every sports fan loves a good dramatic finish, but Coach
Andrea Leonard and the Cougars will take victories any way they can get them. Especially in straight sets.
