Box Score 2 Coming off of a fantastic Friday in which the Cougars defeated two highly ranked opponents, the CSUSM volleyball team kept the momentum rolling on Saturday during the Biola Holiday Inn Summer Slam, beating both William Jessup and Westmont three sets to zero.
In the morning match against William Jessup, the Cougars and the opposing Warriors were locked at 13 in the first set before San Marcos turned on the jets and never looked back. CSUSM took the match 25-19, 25-14, 25-11, aided by 8-0 and 11-0 runs to start both the second and third sets respectively.
On the match, Taylor Degraaf led the Cougars with 11 kills and 11 digs,
Alyssa Foster notched 15 assists, and the Cougars as a team recorded 12 service aces, including 3 by libero
Nichole May.
Cal State San Marcos' afternoon game against Westmont College was a tighter affair, but the Cougars still won convincingly 25-21, 25-15, 26-24. Taylor Degraaf once again lead the team in kills with 13, including big shots to finish both the first and second sets. After the score was knotted 23-23 in the third set,
Lindsey Sappington recorded 3 clutch kills to put the game away.
Alyssa Foster had 2 aces led the team in assists (31) for the 10th consecutive game.
With the victories, the Cougars have pushed their record up to 7-3. CSUSM plays next at the Seaside Classic in Point Loma on Friday September 9th with games against #1 ranked Fresno Pacific and #12 Point Loma Nazarene.
