An outstanding final round of 292 helped Cal State San Marcos men's golf finish in the thick of a loaded field at the CBU Spring Break Intercollegiate, taking 7th place at the event.

Featuring a 16 team field that included many of the top squads in the NAIA, the tournament, hosted by Cal Baptist at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, NV, concluded with Tuesday's third round.  #1 ranked Oklahoma City won the event, with #19 SCAD taking second.  Other ranked teams competing were #7 Southern Nazarene (4th), #17 Wayland Baptist (5th), #18 Master's College (6th), #11 Holy Names (8th), #14 Victoria (9th), and #25 Cal Baptist (10th).

The #23-ranked Cougars finished with a three-round team total of 896, one shot better than Holy Names and three better than British Columbia, and just one behind Master's.

Leading the way on Tuesday and overall at the tournament was Kevin Ruby, who shot an outstanding final round of -1 (71).  Combined with Monday's rounds of 75-77, Ruby posted a team total of 223, tying him for 18th in the field.

Next was Robert Nicanor, who also excelled on Tuesday, shooting even par 72.  He finished a shot back of Ruby, in 25th place with a total of 224.

One shot back of Nicanor was Jared Hentila, who tied for 26th at 225.  Adam Loran was next on the team, tying for 38th at 225.  Max Sujiwaridom rounded out the squad, posting a score of 229 to tie for 42nd.

CSUSM's five golfers finished within 6 shots of each other; a fact that combined with the team's strong overall finish is a very good sign for Coach Greg Hutton's squad going forward.
