Coach Cindy Naval's Cal State San Marcos women's golf team closed out its fall season on Tuesday, placing 10th at the Cal Poly/Lamkin Grip Invitational.

Competing in an NCAA-heavy 12-team field at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, CA, the Lady Cougars shot a team total of 671 to finish five shots back of Southern Utah and seven behind Cal Baptist.  After a rough first round 342 that had the team tied for last, the Lady Cougars distinguished themselves with a strong second round 329 to finish eight shots ahead of local rival Point Loma Nazarene and nine in front of CSU East Bay.

Tess Russell capped off a very strong fall debut by placing first on the team on Tuesday, tying for 28th in the field overall.  Russell followed up a first round 85 with a second round 80 on the very difficult par-72 course, giving her a total score of +19 (165).

Next was Vanessa Chap, who shot 85-82 to tie for 40th at 167.  Lisa Copeland was third on the team, tying for 48th at 169 after rounds of 84 and 85.  Felicia Titus bounced back from a first round 91 to shoot 82 in round two, finishing tied for 57th at 173.  Cora McClung rounded out the top five with a 180, tied for 64th.

With a promising fall season behind them, Coach Naval's squad will now look forward to making their return to the NAIA National Championships this spring.
