Men's Soccer Bests Soka in 3-2 Thriller

Kaiser's 87th minute goal sends the Cougars home road winners

Box Score Following a long layoff, Cal State San Marcos men's soccer got back into the swing of things on Friday with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Soka University.

CSUSM improves to 7-5-1 on the year.  Soka drops to 2-8-2.

The Cougars dominated the match, out-shooting the home team by a wide margin.  However, Soka keeper Tim Sasser, who has given the Cougars fits in the past, was at it again on Friday, denying chance after chance to keep his team in the match.

The start of the match was for from ideal for the Cougars, as a defensive miscue gifted Soka a goal just two minutes in.  CSUSM would quickly respond, with Alex Brunsell continuing his superb freshman season with a goal in the 10th minute off an assist from Max Blumenshine.

After halftime, CSUSM would take a lead in about the 65th minute, as Jake Kaiser notched an unassisted goal.  Soka would equalize, however; but in the 87th minute, Kaiser struck again off an assist from Sullivan Tobin to deliver what would prove to be the decisive blow.

With the post-season on the horizon, the Cougars and Coach Ron Pulvers will play Sunday at Marymount Palos-Verdes, then Wednesday at La Sierra to close out the regular season.
