Men’s Soccer Fights Through Rain, Mud to Comeback Victory over Chapman

Box Score
Cold, wet, and muddy conditions took the bite out of the Cougar offense, but Cal State San Marcos men's soccer persevered, coming from behind to defeat Chapman 2-1 at home on Wednesday.
CSUSM improves to 8-3-2 on the year. Chapman drops to 8-7-1.
Coming off a tough loss at Santa Cruz, getting a result in this game was crucial for Cougar men's soccer. In just the second minute, CSUSM appeared to take an early lead when a corner kick was headed in beautifully, but it was ruled that the ball swung out of bounds in the air.
Unfortunately, that would end up being CSUSM's best chance of the first half, as the conditions made maintaining any kind of possession a chore. Instead, it was Chapman who jumped out to the lead, with Nick Echeverry scoring in the 31st minute off a cross.
The 1-0 deficit would persist late into the second half, but the Cougars are nothing if not resilient. In the 77th minute, a free kick from Jordan Shadeed was settled in the box, and found the foot of Casey Wootan, who drove home the equalizer.
And with just over 3 minutes left to play, CSUSM would send the soaked fans home happy, as Alex Rodriguez played a ball to Bradley Seidenglanz, who blasted the game winner past the keeper and into the back of the net.
CSUSM will be back at home this Saturday for homecoming, with the women playing at noon and the men at 2:30 PM against Embry-Riddle.
