James Dykstra has been named the CSUSM Student Athlete of the Week for the week of March 10-17 after going 2-0 last week for the Cougars. Dykstra, a senior right-handed pitcher out of San Diego's Rancho Bernardo High School, matched his own school record by fanning 12 batters in seven innings of work in a 9-1 win over Sioux Falls on Mar. 10 before throwing eight-shutout innings while striking out 10 Vanguard batters on March 15. The Cougars' ace has registered four straight appearances with 10 strikeouts or more. He's won each of his starts (6-0) and holds a 1.15 ERA over 47.0 innings. Batters are hitting just .146 off of him and he's worked at least seven innings in each of his appearances. He was also named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Athlete of the Week on March 18.
