Cal State San Marcos men's soccer player Ryan VanDenburg has been named CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-22, it was announced Monday.
VanDenburg, a junior from Huntington Beach, helped the Cougars snap a five-match winless streak with a hat trick against Marymount College last Wednesday. He scored the team's first three goals as the Cougars stomped the Mariners, 5-2, for their first win since Sept. 11.
He opened the scoring in the fifth minute, rocketing home Sullivan Tobin's layoff from 25 yards. He flicked in a header off Alex Brunsell's corner kick in the 23rd, before converting a penalty kick at the start of the second half.
