Mercado-Yateem, a sophomore thrower from Santa Ana, set a new school record in the first meet of the year with a throw of 11.51m. The following week, while competing at the Lumberjack Team Challenge hosted by Northern Arizona University, she again broke her own weight throw record with a throw of 12.40m.
