Maurice Strickland has been named the Cal State San Marcos Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 19-25, 2014. Strickland wrapped up his CSUSM career with record-setting performances at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, taking home two All-American awards in the process. Strickland won three of the 10 events in the decathlon, setting a new championship record with a 48.00 in the 400m. His 7,345 total points set a new CSUSM record and he placed runner-up. Strickland's second-place finish is the highest national finish of any CSUSM male student-athlete at the outdoor national championships since Brett Campfield was runner-up in the 1,500m in 2010. On the final day of the competition, Strickland placed seventh with a jump of 4.90m in the pole vault, earning his second All-America award with a seventh-place finish. Strickland accounted for 10 of the Cougars' 16 team points at the meet. CSUSM placed 18th in the team competition, it's best finish since taking 15th in 2010.
