Tayler Ybarra of the No. 8 ranked CSUSM softball team has been named the CSUSM Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 20-26, 2014. Ybarra, a sophomore catcher from Mission Viejo, Calif., went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI at the plate in an 8-5 victory over the University of Redlands Saturday. Her first hit was a two-out RBI double that gave the Cougars the lead, while her second was another two-out RBI knock, this time to tie the score. She also threw out a Bulldog baserunner attempting to steal, and with the score still tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ybarra led off the inning with an infield single, kick starting a four run frame the put the game away for CSUSM.Â
