Junior middle hitter Erin Talafus has been selected as the CSUSM Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 2-8, 2013. Talafus had 38 kills and hit .464 for the 20th-ranked Cougars over four matches last week. She tallied a season-high 13 kills against Menlo and 11 against Oklahoma Baptist. Defensively, the San Clemente, Calif. native was a force at the net, adding seven solo blocks and 11 block assists - a 4.5 blocks per game average. In the match against OBU, she registered a team season-hihg of seven total blocks (two solo, five assisted).
