SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Ethan Alvano and
Savannah Camp have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for January 2017.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Camp, a junior guard/forward on the women's basketball team, averaged 12.9 points and 4.3 rebounds, leading CSUSM to a 4-4 record. The Escondido native recorded her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Humboldt State on Jan. 14. Camp scored 25 points, on 8-of-15 shooting, and three rebounds in a 73-65 win over San Francisco State on Jan. 26.
Alvano, a junior guard on the men's basketball team, averaged 19.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists, leading Cal State San Marcos to a 6-3 record in the month of January. The Corona native compiled 36 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 109-108 double overtime win at Cal State East Bay on Jan. 5. Alvano had 24 points, six rebounds, eight assists and six steals as the Cougars defeated Humboldt State at home, 95-90. He amassed 29 points, 13 assists and four steals in a 106-100 loss at Cal State San Bernardino.
