SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Joe Boyd and Samantha Flores have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for November 2016.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Boyd, a junior forward on the men's basketball team, averaged a double-double in the month with 12.6 points and 10.3 rebounds in seven contests. The Scottsdale, Ariz. product had 23 points, shooting 90.9 percent (10-11) from the field, and 12 rebounds in a 93-68 win against Redlands on Nov. 15. He recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 75-66 victory versus Azusa Pacific on Nov. 19. Boyd compiled his third double-double of the month with 15 points and 14 rebounds against Humboldt State on Nov. 26.
Flores, a junior from Riverside, was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Libero of the Year in addition to receiving All-CCAA first team accolades. Flores set a new CSUSM four-set record with 32 digs at Stanislaus State on Nov. 4. She recorded 19 digs and two aces against UC San Diego on Nov. 12.
