SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Tyson Kygar and
Savannah Camp have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for December 2016.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Camp, a junior forward on the women's basketball team, averaged 16.6 points and 7.8 rebounds to lead CSUSM to a 4-1 record for the month of December. Camp tallied a career-high 29 points to notch a 77-68 CSUSM victory over Cal State L.A. on New Year's Eve. She recorded double-digits in scoring in all five contests and amassed two double-doubles.
Kygar, a redshirt senior guard on the men's basketball team, averaged 11.3 points per game on 48.9 percent (22-45) shooting from the floor, including going 50 percent (17-34) from behind the arc. The Cougars went 3-3 in the month. Kygar scored 20 points, going 7-for-8 from the field and 6-for-7 from three-point range in a 83-64 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Dec. 10. He tallied 18 points, making four treys, in a 73-71 win against Cal State L.A. on New Year's Eve.
