LOS ANGELES –
Frederik Jahr and
Natalie Rodriguez became the first members of the Cal State San Marcos track & field teams to earn All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors on the third day of the CCAA Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Jahr, competing in the first event of the day for CSUSM, earned All-CCAA honors in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.01m, equaling a season-best and tying for the second-highest leap in the competition. While the mark tied for second, Jahr received third-place honors due to requiring one more attempt to clear the height than the runner-up. It was the third time Jahr cleared 2.01m this season and matched his effort from last year's National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Natalie Rodriguez is a
two-time All-CCAA honoree.
Rodriguez collected All-CCAA honors in the women's 5000m, posting the second-fastest time of the day at 17:02.06. The time fell short of the personal-best Rodriguez established at the
Bryan Clay Invitational by just 2.14 seconds. It is the second All-CCAA honor in the past year for Rodriguez, having also earned the distinction
during the cross country season.
In the men's 5000m,
Steven Ing (14:46.83) and
Caesar Castillo (14:55.70) registered the seventh- and ninth-fastest times, respectively, in the event.
Steven Terris (15:07.00) and
Joe Gonzalez (15:17.98) established new PRs and finished 12th and 15th, respectively.
The men's 4x400m relay of
Burtland Dixon,
Justin Washington,
Matt Doyle and
Fereon Meferia ran the fifth-fastest time of the day with a mark of 3:20.48.
In the men's 4x100m relay,
Nathan Hale, Jr., Doyle, Dixon, and
Tyler Luis clocked the sixth-fastest time of the day of 42.53.
Jamal Brewer leaped a PR of 13.72m in the triple jump, the eighth-best mark of the day.
In the women's triple jump, senior
Michelle Fekete closed out her career with a PR jump of 10.96m that was the 12th-longest of the day.
Noelle Bediamol also set a PR, jumping 10.55m in her final event of the season.
Josh Maffei had the 11th-best throw in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.65m and
Kianna Williams threw 10.02m in the women's shot put, the 19th-longest throw in the event.
Rain at the beginning of Friday's competition canceled the prelim stages of the 3000m steeplechase, putting
Travis Linder into the event final this afternoon. Linder responded with his second-best time of the year; a mark of 10:04.43 that was that 13th-fastest time of the day.
As Candidacy Year Two members of NCAA Division II, the Cougars were not eligible to score points toward the team total. Individuals were not eligible to advance to the finals in their respective events if the event includes a preliminary heat.
In team scoring, both the men's and women's from Chico State were victorious. It is the seventh-straight title for the Wildcat women's squad, while the men's squad reclaimed the crown from last year's winner UC San Diego. Prior to last year, the Chico State men's team had won 11 consecutive crowns.
