AZUSA, Calif. – Natalie Rodriguez and
Raelyn Werley posted NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times in the 5000m to highlight the first day of competition for the Cal State San Marcos men's and women's track & field teams at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday.

Enrique Ramirez and Werley registered California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship qualifying times for the Cougars, bringing the total to 42 student-athletes.
The first day of competition was devoted to the Distance Carnival, with the men's and women's 3000m steeplechase and 5000m the only events being run.
Rodriguez ran a 5000m personal-best 16:59.92 to finish 13th in her heat and qualify for her third CCAA Championship event (800m, 1500m).
Werley qualified for CCAA championships in the women's 5000m, finishing second in her heat with a PR of 17:19.58. Werley also achieved the NCAA Division II provisional standard in the 10,000m earlier this season.
Linder qualified in the men's 3000m steeplechase, setting a PR of 9:57.21.
Ramirez qualified in the men's 5000m with a mark of 15:36.20
Trent Warren (14:42.87) and
Steven Ing (14:43.22) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in their men's 5000m heat. Warren registered a personal-best to qualify in his second CCAA championship event (1500m). Ing's time was a season-best, improving his previous qualifying time in the event.
Rachel Brady also posted a PR in the women's 5000m with a time of 18:07.18 to improve her qualifying mark.
The rest of the Cougars will be in action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for day two of the
Bryan Clay Invitational.
