SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team opens its 2015-16 schedule with an exhibition against San Diego State on Monday, November 2, at Viejas Arena in what will be the fourth meeting between the local squads.
CSUSM, entering its first season of NCAA Division II competition, has 28 official contests on its regular season schedule, including 15 home games at MiraCosta College. It will be the last year that CSUSM plays its home games at MiraCosta; The Sports Center on campus is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2016-17 season.
The Cougars officially open the season on the road on Nov. 18 against Concordia (Calif.), which is also in NCAA Division II Candidacy Year Two. CUI and CSUSM have a history of competitive games in the NAIA.
The home opener takes place on Saturday, Nov. 21 against San Diego Christian. Three days later, the Cougars host Azusa Pacific (Tues., Nov. 24), which advanced all the way to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2015.
Over Thanksgiving break, CSUSM heads west to Hawaii to take on BYU Hawaii (Nov. 27) and Chaminade (Nov. 28).
CSUSM begins its 20-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) slate soon after. On Dec. 3, the Cougars host Humboldt State, which finished third in the CCAA in 2014-15.
The University's annual Homecoming Game will be Saturday, Dec. 5 against Sonoma State. Presale tickets will be required in order to attend the game, as it is usually a sellout.
After a four game road trip that includes clashes against Chico State and UC San Diego, the Cougars host six consecutive games between Jan. 7-23 at MiraCosta,
On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Cougars host defending CCAA regular season champion and NCAA Second Round participant Chico State.
The Cougars will make two more trips to Northern California to face Cal State East Bay (Jan. 28), Cal State Monterey Bay (Jan. 30), San Francisco State (Feb. 11), SSU (Feb. 13) and Humboldt State (Feb. 25).
On Feb. 4 and 6, the Cougars host Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A., respectively. Both finished in the bottom three in the conference a year ago.
The Cougars' final home stand of the season features a tilt with UC San Diego on Thursday, Feb. 18. Senior Night will take place Saturday, Feb. 20 against Cal State San Bernardino.
The Cougars end the year on the road, Feb. 27 against defending CCAA Tournament Champion Cal Poly Pomona.
As a part of NCAA Division II Candidacy Year Two, the Cougars are ineligible for postseason play.
