SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team took third in the CSUSM Fall Classic at Twin Oaks Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars finished the 36-hole competition at 45-over 621 after carding a 26-over 314 in the final round.
Point Loma (286-303 – 589, +13) took home the tournament crown for the second straight season by 30 strokes over second-place Lewis (316-303 -619, +43).
Samantha Stockton of PLNU earned medalist honors (69-73 – 142, -2) and was the only player in the field under par.
"There was some good play throughout and our players are showing some promise as we move toward the spring," said CSUSM head coach
Greg Hutton. "It was a good fall with multiple contributors for each tournament, so I'm really excited for the spring."
Victoria Smith was CSUSM's top finisher. After an opening-round 72, the senior posted 3-over 75 and finished in a tie for fourth at 3-over 147.
Freshman
Sadye Busby carded four-over 76 in her second round, eight shots better than her first round total, and finished in a tie for 16
th (160, +16).
Freshman
Bergen Benedict tied for 11
th at 158 (77-81) and freshman
Joan Park was one shot behind in a tie for 13
th (75-84 – 159).
Taylor Coover tied for 28
th.
Marisa Bhanubandh had a solid outing while competing as an individual, tying for 13
th (80-79 – 159).
The Cougars will pick things back up at Feb. 8-9, 2016's Super San Diego Classic at Riverwalk Golf Course.
