AZUSA, Calif. – Freshmen
Mark Werley and
Joshua Litwiller highlighted the first day of competition for the Cal State San Marcos men's track & field team at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday as the duo qualified for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships.
Werley ran a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase with a time 9:51.72 to qualify for his first championship event.
Litwiller achieved the standard in the 5000m with a personal best mark of 14:50.64, his first CCAA qualifier.
Sophomore
Steven Terris also posted a CCAA qualifier in the 5000m, clocking a 15:09.68 in his first race in the distance this year. Terris has now punched his ticket in two events, having previously hit the standard in the 1500m.
Fellow sophomore
Joe Gonzalez improved his 5000m CCAA qualifying time with a personal best of 14:52.05.
Eighteen members of the men's team have qualified for the CCAA Championships, which will be held at Chico State on Thursday May, 4 to Saturday May 6.
The Bryan Clay Invitational resumes tomorrow, with events getting underway for CSUSM at 9 a.m.
