SAN RAMON, Calif. - Senior
Ryan Maize from the Cal State San Marcos men's track & field team was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 6-12. The announcement was made Tuesday by the conference office. It is the first CCAA Athlete of the Week award given to the CSUSM men's track & field program.
Maize won the 3000m steeplechase at the Oxy Distance Carnival with a time of 9:04.66, just 3.28 seconds short of his own school record. The mark is currently the fastest in the CCAA and qualifies Maize for the conference championships. His time would also stand as an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier if the Cougars were eligible to compete at the NCAA Championships.
Up next for CSUSM is the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet hosted by Point Loma on Saturday, March 18.
