KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 13 Cal State San Marcos softball team received an at-large berth to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round and was named the No. 2 seed in the Concordia (Calif.) Bracket on Thursday evening.

The Cougars (34-14) will face No. 3-seed Dickinson State (N.D.) (41-10) on Monday, May 11 at 12 p.m. at Eagles Field in Irvine. Concordia (49-6), ranked No. 3 nationally, received the No. 1-seed in the bracket and will face No. 4-seed Madonna (Mich.) (34-12-1) in its opening game on May 11 at 3 p.m.

Forty qualifiers will play out 10 double-elimination tournaments across the country to determine the 10-team field for the 35th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Sioux City, Iowa, May 22-28.

CSUSM is making its sixth consecutive appearance in the national tournament. The team is 4-2 overall in the NAIA Opening Round since the format was adopted in 2013. The Cougars advanced to the NAIA Softball World Series in 2013.

DSU and CSUSM also faced each other in the first game of the NAIA Opening Round last season in Caldwell, Idaho, a game the Cougars won, 6-1. CSUSM is 5-1 all-time against DSU.

CSUSM and Concordia met earlier this season on March 31 in Irvine. CUI took down CSUSM, 9-2, but the Cougars rebounded for a 5-4 victory in game two. The Eagles hold a 12-8 all-time advantage over the Cougars.

CSUSM has never faced Madonna.
