KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Naomi Amu of the No. 13 Cal State San Marcos softball team has been named NAIA All-America First Team, it was announced Friday by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Amu, a senior designated player and pitcher out of Oceanside, Calif., is the fourth CSUSM player in program history to earn NAIA First Team honors, joining Cortney Allen (2012, 2013), Alyssa Dronenburg (2012) and Brenna Sandberg (2011).

Amu was the primary offensive force for the Cougars after transferring to CSUSM from the University of Utah for her final collegiate season. She started in every contest and led the team in batting average (.448), home runs (19), RBI (67), slugging (.928), walks (42) and on-base percentage (.589).

In addition, Amu was 5-4 in the circle with a 2.88 ERA in 48 2/3 innings pitched.

Her totals for batting average, home runs, RBI, slugging and OBP rank second in CSUSM's single-season history, trailing only Dronenburg's records set in 2012.

Amu was named the Most Valuable Player of the 32-team Desert Stinger Classic on Feb. 15 while leading the Cougars to a tournament championship of the competition that consisted of all NCAA Division II squads. She hit .688 (11-for-16) while leading all players in home runs (4), RBI (16) and total bases (24).

She led the NAIA in home runs per game (0.40) and RBI per game (1.40) and finished second in home runs and third in total slugging.

Amu hit a home run in five consecutive games from Feb. 8-15 and had nine dingers in a span of 12 games from Feb. 8-27.

She was named to the All-Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) First Team on Apr. 29.

CSUSM put together a 36-14 campaign in its final year of NAIA competition and competed in the NAIA Opening Round for the sixth consecutive season.
