KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Olivia Lucatuorto and
Brogan Hoenisch of the Cal State San Marcos softball team have been named NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes for their work in the classroom and on the playing surface, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday.
In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least junior academic status.
For Lucatuorto, a senior Criminal Justice major from Cameron Park, Calif., it is the second consecutive season in which she has been honored as a NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete. The former Cougar second baseman started every game for CSUSM in 2015 while batting .325 with six home runs, 14 doubles and 39 RBI. She scored a team-high 49 runs.
Hoenisch, a junior Literature and Writing major from Chino Hills, Calif., is a first-time honoree. She started every game for the Cougars at first base and hit .277 with 41 hits, 23 RBI and a team-high four triples. She led the team in chances (412) and putouts (401).
