KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The No. 11 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team is heading to the NAIA National Championship for the fourth-consecutive season and for the 14th time in the program's history. The Cougars received the sixth at-large bid into the competition, May 12-15 at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.
CSUSM, ranked every week of the 2014-15 season, recently finished runner-up at the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship. The A.I.I.'s automatic bid went to champion No. 3 British Columbia, but CSUSM qualified thanks to a decent 313.04 scoring average - the 10th-best adjusted average of any NAIA team.
Senor
Vanessa Chap fired a 2-under 70 in the final round of the A.I.I. Championship to win the individual title by one stroke over Winnie Hyun of UBC. Chap's 1-under 143 is the lowest 36-hole score in program history and she is the first player to win the conference's medalist honor.
The Cougars took 14th place at last year's national championship.
