AZUSA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team split a doubleheader with Azusa Pacific, 5-13 (6 inn.) and 7-2, on Monday evening. CSUSM returned to action after a 17-day break from competition.
CSUSM moves to 21-6 overall. Azusa Pacific, a NCAA Division II school, is 19-17.
Azusa Pacific scored five runs in its first at-bat of the opening game, but
Caylyn Rodriguez brought the Cougars back in it with a 3-run double in the second inning that made it 5-4.
However, APU added a run in each of the next three innings, before a four-run sixth inning iced the game early.
Another RBI single from Rodriguez handed CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game two.

Karla Bernal's batted ball in the fourth inning.
Alvara knocked in two more in the fifth inning to push the lead to 5-0. She was 3-for-3 in game two.
Bellamy capped off the Cougar scoring with a two-run triple in the sixth inning.
Katie Wilkinson (10-3) completed a five-hit complete game while striking out six.
CSUSM takes on Simpson this Friday, Mar. 27 at 2 p.m. at CSUSM Softball Field.
