KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team earned a No. 8 seed and will face top-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in the first round of the 35th Annual Division I National Championship presented by Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City. The two teams will square off at the Independence Events Center in Independence, Mo. on March 18 at 6 p.m.
There are eight games each on Wednesday and Thursday, with the eight second-round games set for Friday, March 20.
The Cougars (16-15) qualified for their second consecutive trip to the NAIA Division I national tournament. They punched their ticket by winning the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship, 74-71, against Morris College (S.C.) last Saturday afternoon. CSUSM enters the tournament on a five-game win streak with three of the games decided by three points or less.
FHU carries a 32-1 record into the tournament after winning the American Midwest Conference. The Lions were the 2014 NAIA National Championship runner-up after falling to Oklahoma City, 80-76. FHU is making its 19th consecutive appearance in the national tournament.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
