VICTORIA, Texas – Junior shortstop
Melyssa Bellamy of the No. 12 Cal State San Marcos softball team has been named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 2-8, it was announced Monday.
Bellamy helped the Cougars to a 2-2 overall weekend against future fellow conference opponents Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Dominguez Hills. CSUSB and CSUDH both hail from NCAA Division II's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
The Hesperia, Calif.-native went 6-for-12 at the plate over the four games, with nine total bases and three RBI. She posted a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .538 in the process. She added 11 assists and 10 putouts.
On Saturday against CSUSB, Bellamy registered three doubles, two RBI, a walk and a run. She went 3-for-6 on Sunday vs. CSUDH and added a critical RBI in game one.
CSUSM, which stands at 5-3 overall, will head to Las Vegas for the Desert Stinger Tournament, hosted by Montana State-Billings.
The Cougars will face CSUSB on Friday, Feb. 13, Black Hills State (S.D.) and MSUB on Saturday, and Simon Fraser (B.C.) and Western New Mexico on Sunday.
