VICTORIA, Texas – Three players carded rounds in the 70's and the No. 12 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team registered the lowest round of the day during the final round of the Houston-Victoria Claud Jacobs Invite on Monday at The Club at Colony.
CSUSM posted 21-over 309 in its final go-around and finished in fourth place at 56-over 920 (298-313-309) in the 14-team competition. The Cougars had the lowest round of the day by three strokes.
Host No. 9 Houston-Victoria won the event, followed by No. 13 Wayland Baptist and No. 15 Texas Wesleyan.
Christina Trujillo and
Gabby Bautista led the troops with 3-over 75's, while
Vanessa Chap carded a 78.
Victoria Smith and
Taylor Coover each shot 81.
Trujillo, who started the tournament off with a 2-under 69, placed ninth at 9-over 225. She led the field in scoring on par-3's (-2) and total birdies (12).
Smith took 19
th place at 14-over 230, followed closely by Chap at 15-over 231. Chap was the only CSUSM player to finish all three rounds in the 70's and she played the par-5's at 1-under during the competition.
Smith had 34 pars, tied for the fourth-most in the competition.
Bautista tied for 30
th at 22-over 238, while Coover tied for 51
st at 35-over 251.
CSUSM has two weeks off before hosting the Cougar Invitational, Mar. 2-3 at St. Mark Golf Club.
