SAN DIEGO – The No. 12 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team tied for sixth place in the 2015 Super San Diego Women's Collegiate Championship, hosted by Point Loma at Riverwalk Golf Course.
CSUSM finished with a two-round total of 63-over 639, along with host PLNU. After a first-round 316 (+28) on Monday, CSUSM sputtered to a second-round 32-over 323.
First-round leader Cal Baptist (302-311 – 613, +37) took home the hardware by 16 strokes over Sonoma State (314-315 – 629, +53). Academy of Art and Dixie State tied for third at 56-over.
Victoria Smith posted 78 for the second straight day, as did
Vanessa Chap.
Taylor Coover and
Christina Trujillo shot 83 and 84, respectively.
Danielle Biss's 87 did not count toward the team score.
Freshman Gabby Bautista, competing as an individual during the competition, tallied a 5-over 77 to lead all Cougars. She finished in a tie for 18
th at 15-over 159 (82-77), along with Chap (81-78 – 159, +15).
Smith was CSUSM's highest finisher, taking 14
th at 12-over 156.
Coover (79-83 – 162, +18) and Trujillo (78-84 – 162, +18) tied for 24
th. Biss tied for 61
st (88-87 – 175, +31).
The tournament on the par-72, 5,927-yard track featured 10 NCAA Division II teams, three NCAA Division II squads and three NAIA institutions.
