SAN RAMON, Calif. – Marc Toma of the Cal State San Marcos men's golf team has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golfer of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-27, the conference announced Thursday.
The freshman from San Diego out of Canyon Crest Academy took third place overall at the CSUSM Fall Classic, Oct. 26-27 at Twin Oaks Golf Course.
Competing as an individual, Toma posted three scores of under-par to finish at 8-under 208, five strokes back of medalist Ryan Douglass of South Mountain. In the second round, Toma fired a 6-under 66, tied for the fourth-lowest round in CSUSM program history.
He sandwiched the 66 with a pair of 71's in the first and final rounds. His 208 total is the fourth-lowest 54-hole total in CSUSM history and is the third-lowest by a CSUSM freshman (current seniors
Scott Shefflette [U.C. Ferguson Classic] and
Ryan Odom [Battle at Primm] finished at -9 when they were freshmen in 2012-13).
Overall, Toma played the par-5's in 7-under and the par-4's in 3-under.
Toma is the second CSUSM men's golfer to be honored with the CCAA Golfer of the Week Award this year.
Dylan Healey took the honor for the week of Sept. 30-6 after winning the InterWest Wildcat Classic.
The CSUSM top-five took home the team title at the CSUSM Fall Classic by one stroke over South Mountain on Tuesday.
