MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. – After a week of training in Mammoth Lakes, the Cal State San Marcos men's and women's cross country teams capped off their preseason with a dual race against Vanguard Monday morning.
Running a 4K race, the women won by forfeit with 12 CSUSM jerseys crossing the line first. Senior
Kate Bouvatte took the tape in a time of 15:12 with sophomore
Raelyn Werley on her heels at 15:19. Rounding out the top five were
Natalie Rodriguez (15:51),
Selena Gallardo (15:51) and
Terra McGinnis (16:04)
The men ran a 6K race and defeated Vanguard 28-29. Junior
Zach Laurenzana took runner-up honors for the second consecutive season with a time of 19:02, just seconds behind Vanguard's Josh Espinoza. Sophomore
Chris Ceja placed fourth with a time of 19:38 followed by freshman
Michael Waltrip at 19:41.
The Cougars return home for four weeks of training before they compete in the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 13.
