CSUSM Sneaks Past Point Loma 1-0, Reaches 10-win Mark

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team edged crosstown foe Point Loma, 1-0, in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon at the CSUSM Multipurpose Field.

Paulina Good headed in Brianne Searl's corner kick in the 74th minute to provide the difference in the game. It was the junior's sixth goal of the season and Searl's eighth assist.

CSUSM ends its regular season with a 10-2-3 overall mark. The Cougars are unbeaten in their last ten matches and are likely to receive the No. 1-seed for Nov. 14-15's Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship in Clinton, Iowa.

"It's a huge win, obviously - not only for this team, but for our entire program. They're a top-notch DII team," said first-year CSUSM head coach Bobby Renneisen. "Ten wins is always the plateau we strive for and to accomplish one of our goals for this season is big for us. It's momentum we can most certainly use. We just have to play like there's no tomorrow from here on out."

CSUSM came into the match 0-5-3 all-time against the Sea Lions. PLNU, which plays in NCAA Division II's PacWest Conference, drops to 12-3 with the loss.

The majority of the match was played in between the boxes, as the game ended with a total of 11 shots, none in the first half.
Searl's defensive play with 25 minutes remaining kept the game scoreless, as she stayed true to her post on a Sea Lion corner kick and cleared Tara Kracy's header off the line.

On Tuesday, the Cougars learned that they moved up from No. 17 to No. 16 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
