Final ResultsSAN MARCOS, Calif. – No one could catch Point Loma on the final day of the CSUSM Fall Classic at Twin Oaks Golf Course Tuesday, as the Sea Lions shot the lowest round of the tournament and finished 25 strokes ahead of runner-up Cal State San Marcos.
The Cougars trailed Point Loma by just three strokes after the first round, but PLNU posted a 300 compared with a 322 for the Cougars in the second go-around. PLNU finished at 37-over 613 (313-300).
CSUSM was second at 62-over 638, three strokes ahead of third-place Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) (318-324-642, +66).
Vanessa Chap and
Christina Trujillo each shot 77, while
Victoria Smith came in with an 83. Gabby Bautista's 85 wrapped up the team scoring, while
Taylor Coover's 68 was thrown out.
Lauren Kruszewski of ERAU took home medalist honors at 2-over 146 (72-74), four ahead of runner-up Brianna Carrels of Victoria (B.C.) (75-75-150, +6).
CSUSM had two players finish in the top ten in Chap (77-77-154, +10) and Trujillo (80-77-157, +13). Chap placed solo seventh while Trujillo tied for ninth.
Smith was just out of the top 10 in a tie for 11
th at 18-over 162 (79-83). anielle Biss competed as an individual and followed her first-round 78 with an 84. She also tied for 11th at 18-over 162.
Coover (80-86-166, +22) was 21
st and Bautista (82-85-167, +23) tied for 22
nd.
The CSUSM Fall Classic marked the end of the fall season for the 2014-15 Cougars. CSUSM will have nearly three months off before returning for the 2015 spring season in Feb. 9-10's Super San Diego Championship at Riverwalk Golf Course in Mission Valley.
