Women's Cross Country

Cougars Combine For Fourth Place at NAIA Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Cal State San Marcos cross country teams placed fourth in the combined team award after both squads collected seventh place finishes at the 2014 NAIA National Cross Country Championships. 
 
Senior Kate Bouvatte and freshman Natalie Rodriguez along with junior Steven Ing and freshman Andrew Tellames earned All-American honors for their top 30 finish.

Bouvatte finished in a time of 17:59 for sixth place and became CSUSM's 10th women's cross country runner to finish in the top 10 at the NAIA National Championships. 
 
Rodriguez was close behind at 18:19 to take 13th place in her first appearance at the national level. Terra McGinnis was the next Cougar to cross the line, finishing 82nd at 19:15. 
 
Cristen Lane (107, 19:26) and Raelyn Werley (120, 19:33) rounded out the CSUSM scorers.
 
Ing finished 17th overall in a time of 25:24 and Tellames was on his tail at 25:29 for 21st place.  Easton Tackett placed 57th (26:00) and Daniel Ybarra took 90th (26:21).  Ryan Maize was the final Cougar to score and finished 110th (26:34). 

Race favorite British Columbia took home the 2014 team title after placed three runners in the top four spots.  Lewis-Clark collected the runner-up trophy with 141 points, followed by Northwest Christian (181), Carroll (234), Dordt (235) and Oklahoma Baptist (250).
 
Oklahoma City defended its 2013 NAIA National Men's Cross Country Championship title after accumulating 55 points, defeating second place Southern Oregon by 58 points. Olivet Nazarene took third, followed by Eastern Oregon (144), Aquinas (183) and British Columbia (213).
