Final ResultsARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team wrapped up the Firestone Grill/Lampkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational in seventh place after Sunday's final round at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
The Cougars posted 43-over 335 and finished with a two-round total of 63-over-par 647. CSUSM shot 20-over 312 in Saturday's first round and was in sixth place heading into Sunday.
Victoria Smith's 82 was the lowest round of the day for the Cougars. She was followed with 84's by
Christina Trujillo and
Vanessa Chap.
Taylor Coover shot 85 to round out the scoring, while
Gabby Bautista's 88 was thrown out.
Santa Clara shot 2-over 294 and won the tournament title by four strokes over Northern Arizona with a total of 16-over 600. SCU started the day in third place, six strokes back. Host Cal Poly took third overall at 22-over 606.
The Cougars just missed the top half of a field of 13 teams, nine of them of the NCAA Division I variety. CSUSM placed ahead of Cal Poly (B), Cal State Bakersfield and Idaho State, in addition to NCAA Division II's Cal State Monterey Bay.
Trujillo, who entered the day a shot back of the lead, finished in 20
th place at 11-over 157. Chap was two back in a tie for 29
th with a total of 13-over 159.
Smith (83-82 – 165,+19) tied for 38
th, while Coover (81-85 – 166, +20) tied for 41
st.
The Cougars have one more fall tournament remaining, Nov. 3-4's CSUSM Fall Classic at Twin Oaks Golf Course. Following the competition, the Cougars will have three months off before starting the spring season on Feb. 9-10 in the Super San Diego Championship at Riverwalk Golf Course in Mission Valley.
