SAN MARCOS, Calif.—  The No. 1 ranked Cal State San Marcos softball team put on quite a display for the Cougar faithful in their home debut, taking a pair of games against fellow A.I.I. Conference member La Sierra 8-0. The Cougars walked off in both games in the bottom of the fifth after run-ruling the Golden Eagles, the first of which clinched a perfect game for CSUSM ace Cortney Allen. Outfielder Alex Miller also had a brilliant day at the plate, going 6-for-6 with a double and a stolen base, while adding three runs and three RBI. The Cougars improved to 7-2 on the season, while La Sierra dropped to 1-4.

Game 1: CSUSM 8 – La Sierra 0
Starting pitcher and All-American  Cortney Allen struck out the side in the first inning and five of the first six La Sierra batters to set the tone early for San Marcos. Freshman catcher Taylor Ybarra (2-3, 4 RBI) lined an RBI single to right field in the opening frame to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge.

It proved to be all CSUSM would need as Allen was unhittable in the circle, striking out seven out of the 15 Golden Eagles she would face and withholding La Sierra from any sharply-hit balls. On the other end, the Cougars were dropping hits all over the field, scattering 14 hits in just 4.1 innings. Center fielder Alex Miller and second baseman Olivia Lucatuorto each went 3-for-3 at the plate.

It was a dominating performance all-around for the NAIA's top ranked Cougars, and CSUSM's first perfect game at home since All-American Brenna Sandberg did it against Emerson College in March 2011. For Allen— who was made aware of her possible perfect game by a teammate, though she usually does not like to know— it is her second career perfect game after blanking Pomona-Pitzer on a neutral field last season.

Game 2: CSUSM 8 – La Sierra 0
Cal State San Marcos wasted no time asserting themselves in game two, with Olivia Lucatuorto driving in three runs and Alex Miller two in the first two innings alone. Miller added a third RBI in the fourth inning with a record-breaking double to left field, her third on the season. Miller, a two-time 2nd team All-American and only a junior, surpassed All-American alumni Alyssa Dronenburg for first place on the CSUSM career doubles list with 41. She also currently holds the top two spots on the CSUSM single season record book as well with 21 doubles in 2012 and 17 in 2011.

The Cougars received another strong pitching performance in the latter game, this time from the arm of Jourdan Lamoureux (3-0), who allowed just three hits and no walks over five scoreless innings. Lamoureux picked up her tenth career victory while lowering her season ERA to 0.75 and career ERA to 0.98 — currently the lowest in CSUSM history.

CSUSM will play twice next week with doubleheaders on the road at Vanguard Friday and at Biola Saturday. The next home game in San Marcos will be Friday, March 1 with games against Arizona Christian and Hope International.
