Alyssa Foster and Taylor DeGraaf named to NAIA All-America Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— Cal State San Marcos volleyball standouts Alyssa Foster and Taylor DeGraaf were each recognized as Honorable Mentions on the 2012 NAIA All-America Team released by the NAIA Monday.

Foster, the 2012 A.I.I. Conference Setter of the Year, often works in conjunction with DeGraaf by feeding sets for the A.I.I. Conference Player of the Year to slam home. The sophomore duo were each among the national leaders in their respective categories.

Foster ranked seventh in the NAIA with 1605 assists on the season, while DeGraaf finished fourth in the nation with 629 kills and 18th with 65 total service aces. Both players are extremely versatile and can excel from all positions on the court, including at the net or in digging out opposing attacks successfully.

Foster finished the season with 139 kills and a school record .324 hitting percentage, 1605 assists, 40 service aces, 353 digs, and 57 total blocks. DeGraaf wrapped up her year with 629 kills at a .234 hitting percentage, 31 assists, 65 service aces, 358 digs, and 33 total blocks.

Behind the play of Foster and DeGraaf, the Cougars swept all four of their opponents in winning their second consecutive A.I.I. Conference Championship. CSUSM then went on to defeat No. 22 Vanguard and No. 6 The Master's in the NAIA National Tournament before being knocked out in pool play.

This is the second All-American honor for DeGraaf, who surpassed many of her statistic totals from her fantastic freshman season. The sophomore from Arcadia, Calif. has also recorded 16 double-doubles in each of the last two seasons, an impressive feat for an outside hitter.

The All-America recognition is a first for Foster, who is the only Cougar to play in all 83 matches in CSUSM program history. She also led Central Catholic High School in Portland, Ore. to two state championships in her time there, and she and DeGraaf will have two more opportunities to work towards bringing the Cougars a title together.
