th minute to tie the game 1-1 but the Eagles answered in the 87
th minute to improve their record to 11-4-2 overall.
CSUSM stands at 9-4-3 with one regular season game remaining.
“I thought we struggled quite a bit. We had a breakaway in the first half, we had a player one-on-one with the keeper in the second half, and those are opportunities we really have to bury,” said CSUSM head coach
Ron Pulvers. “Credit to Embry-Riddle, they took their chances well.”
CSUSM had a number of chances in the first half to break the game open.
Kelsey Gunion nearly connected with a left footed volley from the top of the box in the 15
th minute, but missed the top corner wide left.
Dani Porter's breakaway inside the left of the box was quelled by ERAU defender Marissa Golesch, before goalkeeper Ciarra Pederson stonewalled Porter on a one-on-one opportunity at the top of the arc.
The Eagles converted on their first legitimate chance at goal, as Aime Jepsen played a through ball to Kalyn Goodenough. Goodenough beat CSUSM goalie
Amanda Sears to the ball before chipping it cleverly inside the left post.
CSUSM evened eight minutes later, as Gunion drew a foul about 28 yards away above the left side of the box. Searl played the dead ball beautifully, bending a right-footed shot over the left side of the wall and inside the left post for her first goal of the season.
The next time down the field, substitute
Alexa Watkins got on the end of
Kaleigh Dodson's cross, but her open header sailed high.
CSUSM outshot ERAU 10-3 and earned seven corner kicks in the opening half.
Still tied, the Cougars pushed forward in the second half in search of a deciding goal.
Sarah Hopper found herself alone in the box along the right flank, but hurried a shot that missed well wide. In the 75
th minute, Searl bent-in another free kick that bounced inside the box.
Jacqueline Lara slid to meet it, but her deflection went over for a goal kick.
ERAU caught CSUSM out of position on the deciding goal three minutes from full-time. Chelsea Page dribbled though the right side of the midfield, drawing the defense over to stop the pressure. Page then played a looping cross to Golesch, who volleyed in the shot from the center of the box.
The Cougars will face Bethesda on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. The CSUSM seniors will be honored before the contest begins.
