The Cougars got on the board first, getting a goal from an unlikely source.

Taylor Ziencina in the 28th minute. CSUSM took the 1-0 lead into halftime of the tightly-played game.
Early in the second half, the Cougars added an insurance goal that turned out to be crucial. A penalty kick was awarded to CSUSM in the 65th minute, and senior
Katelyn Krauss drove her shot past the keeper. It turned out to be the game winner, as S.F. State's Robin Bowman got her team on the board in the 88th minute, making it 2-1. CSUSM was able to hold on and pick up the win.
The Cougars will play the second and final game of their road trip on Saturday at Cal State East Bay.
